O Terço CD (Compacto Duplo)

In the history of "O Terço", which has its origins in 1968, are three bands in far-off the 60 - Joint Stock Co., Hot Dog and Os Libertinos, where began the guitarist Sergio Hinds, bassist Cesar de Mercês and drummer Vinícius Cantuária. The group Os Libertino, then formed by the three aforementioned musicians, was an attraction that ruffled domingueiras of Rio de Janeiro. The band was still called Santíssima Trindade. In 1970 or 71, Caesar de Mercês is replaced by Jorge Amiden. Now change the name to O Terço. The set, as I might have guessed, was from Rio de Janeiro, but then would settle down in Sao Paulo.

O Terço began singing a rock that they themselves would rank after a "rude" (Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, etc..), On the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. At the time, were rivals of A Bolha (another historic national band), but changed the style, concentrating on vocals and enjoyed great success with the song "Tributo ao Sorriso", including between public is not fond of rock.

On the third meaning of the word, of course it is a "fractional equivalent to three" or "the third part of something," including the Rosary, a set of accounts used in Catholic liturgy to compute a certain number of prayers (fifteen Our Fathers and fifteen Hail Marys). The name O Terço out nicely at least for this first incarnation of the band, which was a trio (guitar-bass-drums). Sérgio Hinds, asked where the name was taken from the group said: O Terço as a trio and the symbol of the union representing the rosary.

According to Marcelo Dolabella, in his ABZ of Brazilian Rock, the group had released two singles before the first single LP.

That was the time of Rural Rock and Progressive Rock, and O Terço followed these sounds.

Over the year to launch the debut LP: the site's Casa do Rock 70 reports that was in 1969, Leonardo Nahoum, in his Encyclopedia of Progressive Rock in 1970, and Marcelo Dolabella in 1972. There seems to be more unanimity with respect to the second date, 1970.

Sérgio Hinds had moved away from the group to play with Ivan Lins. It was then that Jorge Amiden called Cezar de Mercês to join the group as bassist. Sérgio Hinds returned shortly afterwards to complete the quartet. With innovation and creativity, in partnership with Guarabyra, the group created the electric cello (played by Sergio Hinds) and the three arms of guitar (nicknamed "tritarra", played by Jorge Amiden). It was so beautiful O Terço released a compact double with five songs, among them, a theme by Bach, who showed well the classical influences of the band.

Soon after, Jorge Amiden which until then was the main creative mind of the O Terço, quarreled with the group and leave. By agreement between the other three members, Sérgio Hinds registered the name "O Terço" for which George Amiden did not. After leaving the group in 1972, Amiden created a new group called Karma, along with musicians Luiz Mendes Junior (guitar) and Alen Earth (below). Karma recorded a beautiful album this year and then disbanded.

O Terço then became Sérgio Hinds (guitar), Cesar de Mercês (bass) and Vinicius Cantuária (drums). Even in mid-1972, O Terço recorded the album "South Wind" by Marcos Valle. Also participated in some tracks the trio "Paulo, Claudio and Mauricio" formed by twin brothers Paul and Claudio Guimaraes (flute and guitar) and arranger Mauricio Maestro, plus guitarist Frederik (Fred), ex-Som Imaginário. The Rosary along with Marcos Valle toured throughout the country and played at the Midem Festival in Cannes, France.

Last news: this record was released in CD last year, with many bonus tracks.

As a consequence of the UAC changes the user modules folder has been moved to the user local folders. For most people this will have no significance. However, if you need to access the .hom files that define your own modules you'll find that any new ones are now stored in a different place. You can find out exactly where by selecting the module in the toolbox and choosing Show Module File from the Toolbox menu.

For Vista (and Win 7 I think) user modules are stored in:

C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\SynthMaker\Modules\User
C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\SynthMaker\Modules\Deleted Modules

For XP and 2000 user modules are stored in:
C:\Documents And Settings\[user name]\Application Data\SynthMaker\Modules\User
C:\Documents And Settings\[user name]\Application Data\SynthMaker\Modules\Deleted Modules

Depending on how your system is configured these folders may be hidden so the easiest way to get to them is most likely to use the Toolbox menu as mentioned earlier.

We decided that any existing user modules will be left in the current user module folder (..\Outsim\SynthMaker\Modules\User), it's just the new ones that are created in the new folder. If you want to move completely to the new system then all you need to do is move the .hom files from the old folder to the new one - simple as that (make sure you close all instances of SM before doing this).

List of changes:

- Better compatibility with Windows 7 & Vista UAC so there's now no need to run as admin

- Moved user modules to user local folders so new modules are saved/deleted to there but old ones remain where they are now
- Fixed a bug where undo in text components was not working under certain circumstances
- Fixed a bug in the Delay by One Sample component. A chain of n of these was delaying by n-1 instead of n.
- Corrected an issue with continuous Mouse Move messages when the task manager is up
- Added stereo input option to Mem Create to allow it to be used correctly with Wave Write Stereo
- Wave Write components now take plain mem inputs like all other mem components
- Fixed a bug which was causing very slow copy and paste in some large schematics

- Corrected a problem with cut and paste that could result in incorrect module syncing
- The Code and Assembler components now take account of case when syntax colouring
- Fixed a problem with exported exes on P4 machines where either no sound was being let through or the exe was crashing
- Updated the example synth schematic to replace superceded components in the ping pong delay.

Automat was a project of a disc, from the Italians Musumarra, Gizzi and Maggi. The first two were members of the pop band La Bottega dell'Arte that was successful in Italy between 1976 and 1984. The "Automat" LP was released in 1978 as a kind of demo Synthesizer MCS70 (Memory Controller Synthesizer 70) built by Maggi. The funny highlight of the LP is the band Droid, who say they were the opening theme of a TV news at TV Globo (Brazil) in the early 80's. In fact parts of this theme were used twice in television news, in one of them no Globo Esporte noon. This all in it for 81/82. But it was common to the Globo television, since I remember that was used in the novel called "Brilhante", type in 80/81. There are many more electronic themes that the Globo TV used in the field of the Fantástico.

SoundDiver (SD) is a patch librarian/editor which can be "autolinked" to Logic Audio or used alongside other MIDI/Audio sequencers. It provides two levels of accessibility depending on whether a custom dll has been written specifically to access the higher functions of your particular MIDI gear or not.

Ideally this relationship means you can use SD to automatically configure all of your MIDI gear and even program patches when when you load a song in Logic.

In practice it can be a bit more complicated. A fair review of SD requires me to point out that every MIDI device is different and so is its MIDI implementation. Not only does each manufacturer see fit to put its own spin on how MIDI and sysex should be handled but they often do this differently for different products within a single company. Add to that the fact that different devices can be fundamentally different in what they do and can span many years of changing technology and you can have a story sea complication and conflict. It is this sea that SD attempts (and often succeeds) to navigate. Just as ships can be lost at sea through not fault of the ship or its captain SD can not always guarantee it can make each piece of your gear submit completely to its will. The attempt is made through a central program and a series of software modules corresponding to each MIDI device SD supports. Just as the list of popular MIDI devices changes and grows so does the quantity and quality of coverage that SD provides.

Depending on the nature of support for your particular set of equipment setup can be very easy or somewhat complicated but it only has to be done once.

Support for a device can include a full graphical interface for each and every feature. This allows you to design patches or tweak them right on your computer screen. SoundDiver also allows you to keep your patches safely backed up on your computer's hard drive and will provide search functions, not only for a single device but across multiple devices. If you are using Logic then autolink means you can share data back and forth between SD and Logic such that you can select patches in logic and their current names will be properly displayed in the arrange window because Logic retrieves them from SoundDiver. You can even have both programs keep their windows synchronized so if you select window configuration 1 in SD it will bring up the corresponding window configuration in Logic as well and vice versa. All edits in SD are played immediately on your synth. These edits can even be recorded as MIDI track data by logic so that real-time edits can be part of your sequence.

Lots of brush snare hits, swirls, taps, strokes as well as brush toms and brush cymbals. The cymbals are stereo to give a rich overall ambience. Multi velocity snares and toms (separate samples for soft and loud hits) for the utmost in dynamic realism. Boston studio musician Jeff Allison, also a sound engineer for Kurzweil Music Systems described these as "some of the nicest drum samples I’ve heard in a really long time. These are great."

The latest incarnation of Sony’s PC-based audio editing software, Sound Forge, has been released, strengthening its powerful feature set. Unlike a DAW — which is designed for multitrack editing — Sound Forge aids the user in fine-tuning individual audio files to purpose; for example, EQ’ing a song before cutting to vinyl. This update contains some interesting new features, as well as a few more practical ones.

Sony had already made themselves a strong ally for their v9 release in the form of Izotope, the creators of the well-recieved Ozone 4 (reviewed SOS July 2009) mastering suite. Sound Forge 10 includes Izotope’s SRC sample-rate conversion and MBIT+ dithering systems, as well as a stripped-down version of all six parts of Ozone 4 (there were only four Izotope plug-ins in Sound Forge 9). Also new to the package is DAO (disc-at-once) burning, allowing the user to create a Red Book-compliant standard audio CD without using separate CD editing and burning software. The inclusion of these processors and tools, in an already solid piece of editing software, makes Sound Forge an attractive option for anyone wanting to master their own material on a relatively tight budget.

Support for several instrument file-formats has also been added, with DLS, Soundfont 2 and Gigastudio formats now editable. Anyone using these formats can alter individual parts of a patch and re-save it without any format conversion. Other new features include a Direct X release of the Zplane Elastique Pro time-stretch algorithm, as well as GUI updates. These include tabbed file browsing, window docks (which appear to be similar in function to those in Adobe’s Creative Suite), and savable layouts, all of which should make working with all of the new tools a little easier on the eye.

Atsia Bass Drums
This collection includes the Dunumba, Kenkeni, and Sangban (all from Ewe tribe of Ghana), Gungon (from the Dagomba of Northern Ghana), and Macana Surdo (from Brazil). All are cylindrical, double headed drums, though they are otherwise built quite differently and create a variety of sound. They are typically used for foundation rhythms. Up to 4 velocity levels, with both open and closed (muted) hits.

Atsia Bells
An essential component in African percussion ensembles, these bells provide an important structure to the rhythms. Instruments include Iron Castenet, Kenken, and Toke, and the all important Gankoqui Bells. Gankogui is the foundation of the entire ensemble. Its voice provides the metronomic background around which most Anlo-Ewe music is structured. 5 separate Gankoqui bells have been included. Up to 4 velocities and both open and muted strikes, give a wide variety of timbres.

Atsia Floor DrumsHand Hit
This set of drums includes the Djembe (one of the most popular hand drums around the world in drum circles, rituals, and gatherings), Apentema, and three differenrt Kpanlogo drums - conga shaped drums covered with antelope skin. Both strong hand and weak hand hits have been sampled. Open and muted hits and open and muted slaps of up to four velocities, give you a wide range of percussive sounds to work with.

Atsia Floor Drums Hand & Stick Hit
This set of drums is played with both hands and sticks and includes the Atsimevu, Boba, and Sogo. The Atsimevu is the lead drum and most important performer in the Ewe ensemble. The function of the Atsimevu is to lead the rest of the group through a performance. The performer utilizes a variety of strokes to produce a rhythmic language communicating with the rest of the ensemble. The Sogo is the second most important drum in the ensemble next to the Atsimevu and is the largest of the supporting drums. The Boba is a large barrel shaped drum that produces a thunderous, booming bass sound for the ensemble. Up to 4 veloceties, with a wide variety of open and muted stick hits, slaps, stokes, and double hits give you a wide ranging percussive "vocabulary" with which to create your music.
Atsia Floor DrumsStick Hit
The floor drums in this set of instruments function in both lead and supporting roles. All are played with sticks. Instruments include: Kaganu, Kidi, Kloboto, Kpegisu, and Totodzi. Kpegisu is one of the oldest living oral traditions of West Africa, and is deeply expressive in its use of allegory and metaphor. Formerly a dance for those going off to war, Kpegisu is now performed on special occasions. The Kpegisu drum is named after this dance. Both strong hand and weak hand hits have been sampled. Open and muted hits plus side stick are included, with up to four velocities.

Atsia Frame Drums
The Gome and Tamalin are two unique frame drums from the Ashanti and Ga peoples of Ghana. The Gome is like a small table with a rectangular or square shaped skin table top. When placed on its side on the ground, the drummer sits on it, playing it with the hands and the heels of the feet, which press against the skin to change pitch. The Tamalin is square or rectangular shapedand is held with one hand in the middle of the cross-shaped frame and struck with the other hand. A wedge tuning system and goatskin head produce a high steady tone. Up to 4 velocities of center and edge hits, mutes, and slaps.

Atsia Shakers & Snaps
Shakers add color and texture to a percussion ensemble. These shakers are from Ghana and Brazil and include Afoxe, 4 different Axatse, 2 different Caxixi, Frogs Eggs, Ganza, Maracas, and Shekere. Finger Snaps are also included. Multiple velocities, single shakes, double shakes, and taps.

One of the best albuns from these guys. Oregon was an unclassified group. It is jazz, it's folk, it's New Era, it's improvised music and it's much more at the same time.

The members were Ralph Towner (guitar, piano, synthesizer, trumpet), Paul McCandless (woodwind instruments), and Glen Moore (double bass, violin, piano) and Collin Walcott (percussion, sitar, tabla). Towner, McCandless, Moore, and Collin Walcott met as members of world music pioneer Paul Winter's "Consort" ensemble in the late 1960s. They broke away from Winter in 1970 to form their own group, Oregon, which they named after Towner's and Moore's home state. They recorded their first record in 1970, but the label, Increase Records, went out of business before it could be released. (It was released by Vanguard in 1980 as Our First Record.) The group's first release was Music of Another Present Era in 1972. With that debut and its follow-ups Distant Hills and Winter Light (all on Vanguard), Oregon established itself as one of the leading improvisational groups of its day, blending Indian and Western classical music with jazz, folk, and avant-garde elements. The group released numerous albums on Vanguard throughout the 1970s, then made three records for Elektra. After a couple years hiatus devoted to their individual projects, the group resumed recording for ECM in 1983.

During a 1984 concert tour, Walcott was killed in an automobile accident in East Germany. Oregon temporarily disbanded, but reformed by 1987 to record Ecotopia (its final album for ECM) with new percussionist Trilok Gurtu. Gurtu made two further records as a member of the group, but by 1993 he had left; the group recorded two albums as a trio after his departure. With new member Mark Walker on drum kit, Oregon assumed a more conventional jazz orientation beginning with the 1996 album Northwest Passage

Bassist Steve Swallow and pianist Paul Bley are rumored to have been responsible for producing lead sheets for the book. This would explain why compositions by Swallow, Bley, and their friends (e.g., Chick Corea) are heavily represented in The Real Book alongside jazz standards and classic jazz compositions. There is also speculation that composer Stu Balcomb was heavily involved in putting the book together, given his credit in Swallow's album "Real Book" for "cover graphics", and given the presence of several of his tunes in the book. The handwriting in the Real Book matches that in the liner notes for the album as well, suggesting that the whole book was written out by Swallow. Three volumes of The Real Book were produced — volumes 1 and 2 are printed in characteristically 'rough' handwriting and transcription, while the third volume is typeset on a computer.
